Collection: Crewel Work Hangings

In the Muncaster textile collection there is a set of four beautiful crewel work embroidered hangings which would have once surrounded a four poster bed. They are stitched with characterful animals, plants and trees. In many places the embroidery is coming away from the unstable ground (background) fabric.

With your help, we would like to invite a textile conservator to the castle to carry out the much needed conservation work on these valuable pieces of art so they can be enjoyed by future generations of visitors for years to come.
